ZGB permanently destroying sprites ?

How do I permanently destroy a sprite with ZGB ?

Is there a way that i can replace individual background tiles in code, that store the enemy thumbnail ?  And then hopefully the sprites will not  be re-generated.

I know theres a get tile replacement function but I do not understand how to use it.
