Adventures of Mr. Stick

This is the last project I'll be making in C *if I can get assembly working!*. I have dabbled in assembly with making Pokemon Mini games and Odyssey 2 games, but it seems like this is going to be a lot harder. So I may just stick with C because my games don't really seem to be that complicated.

Anyway, the goal here is a lot like Fast Food for the Atari 2600. Avoid the magic beans (Mr. Stick was doing his best Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk impression) and eat the yummy M&Ms. (I'm probably going to change them since I don't want to be sued by Mars, but to what, I'm still not sure yet.) To avoid the magic beans, press Down and to get Mr. Stick back up to eat the M&Ms from his down position, press Up.

I like the game, but it definitely needs something else. That is where I'd like feedback. What do I add? What do I change?

Re: Adventures of Mr. Stick

This forum needs a new post. I've redesigned the game to make it be more like Fast Food for the Atari 2600. Let me know what to do now.

Re: Adventures of Mr. Stick

Hi!

I've tested your latest build, and congrats on this new game project / release!

The core gameplay is good, but the game gets quite repetitive after a while. Maybe you should try to have less "random" pattern to spice the things up?
For example, you could have a section with loads of "bad food" coming your way for a short amount of time. The player would be forced to focus on avoiding instead of collecting food, and it'll had some variety.

It could be also nice to add some graphical effects when we eat food (sparkle, character blinking, etc.)

Last but not least, I'm not a big fan of the music. Like what you did in the first version of oranges, I find the notes way too high pitched, so it become very hard to listen it for too long (at least for me). Personnaly, I cut it off after a couple of plays. I'd suggest to decrease the pitch of all your notes (while keeping the same melody) so it sound "smoother."

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Re: Adventures of Mr. Stick

I worked on lowering the music like you suggested. I'll work on the other stuff soon as well.

Re: Adventures of Mr. Stick

Here is the latest version. I added a "pickle juice" mode (called "avoiding" in the options menu) where the game gets nothing but pickles and you get a point for each second you survive.
