Collision detection with the background

I was going to make a new game where there's a sprite (sprite 2) going around a room and I don't want it to go through the walls, which would be set up using the background. The background consists of just one tile used over and over again to create the rooms, like a block pattern. I was just wondering if there was an easy way for the GB to determine whether the 8x8 sprite has touched the 8x8 wall block in every case it shows up in the room?

Re: Collision detection with the background

And if there's another way to design rooms easily other than making the letter Q the block pattern and then placing Qs all over the screen, let me know.
