New development platform (programmer and flash carts).

Hi, I'm introducing myself as I've just discovered this forums :-)
My name is David, from Spain, and I love GameBoys as you can guess.

I'm working with the help of some friends from the gp32spain forums in a development platform for the GameBoy, an USB programmer and a flash cartridge.
The programmer is based in the GBCartFlasher by kraku and chroost, I adapted the design to the new FT232RL chip and the GBPocket/GBColor cart connector and redid the schematic and PCB designs in Eagle.
Also I made the PCB design for a flash cartridge based on the commercial MBC5 + SRAM + Batt carts, but replacing the ROM with an AM29F016/32 Flash chip for using it with the programmer.

You can have a look at the project at my wiki:
http://wiki.ladecadence.net/doku.php?id … do_gameboy

I'm just translating all the stuff into english, so it's unfinished, and english is not my main language so don't blame me :-)
You can download all the Eagle files and soft there.

If you have any questions or want to contribute I'll be around.
See!

Re: New development platform (programmer and flash carts).

If it has some sort of interface ontop it would be extraordinarily cool, but this is cool too. One piece of advice though: Increase the S-RAM size to 1024 kbit or more (128 kbytes or mroe) I you do that, the cartridge would be useful for Little Sound Dj, and you might actually have profitable market.
What about the MBC? Did you design a clone or are you planning to re-use MBC chips from game carts?

Re: New development platform (programmer and flash carts).

I'm just re-using mbc5's from old carts a friend buys in japan VERY cheap... but it's in my mind developing a clone, perhaps using a low power microcontroller.
I'm also searching for components, if I find cheap 128K srams, i'll put them on the design, as the 32K i'm using are also from the carts i'm re-using.

The first PCB's have arrived :-)

We're now testing it, after seeing if they are ok and making some little fixes, we're going to make the second design with 128K RAM.

The carts work perfect :-)
Now onto 128K SRAM :-)

The new carts are ready, 128K SRAM for all your LSDJ needs.

Re: New development platform (programmer and flash carts).

And about the programmer ?? I'm impatient to have one... roll

I hope that the source code of the ATmega8515P software becomes open-source, my MBC chip use the CLK signal for cleaning strange WR signals. Think that I can use it without modification for programming first bank and I also can use some logical gates to generate CLK signal from WR and RD lines.

Waiting cart flasher for too long... sad

We designed our own flasher : easy to make the PCB, without smd components... smile

Re: New development platform (programmer and flash carts).

Hey if this thing can read carts and flash other carts, I'd love to buy some PCB's etc.  I'm itching for a programmer and some MBC5 flash carts!
