Request for Backlight and Internal LED tutorials

Well, there are several pro sound mod tutorials around, but none that I can see on how to do the backlight and internal LED mods (I think an internal UV LED might look neat). Would anyone care to help a n00b out?

Also, it really bugs me that with tutorials, I'm just following someone's instructions and don't really know why the mod works. I'd like to be able to come up with my own experiments and mods and things, but I have no clue about electronics. Does anyone have any advice on where to start learning this stuff?

Re: Request for Backlight and Internal LED tutorials

Well there are alot you need to do.
First steps is un-escapable.

* Learn basic electronics. (analog and digital basics)
* If it's hardware you want to create then learning soldering is a must.

Now I have no clue about programming stuff for the GB.
I have no programming skills so this is a problem for me.
Also i have no real knowledge about the makeup of a GB other then it's CPU unit, LCD etc.
So this has to be added to the list to, if one want's to make his/her own homebrew mods and such.

I do however have a link for you.
If you seriously want to learn electronics and such then this is the place for you:

http://www.electronics2000.co.uk/

Here you can find all the information you need.
It's a big task i tell you.
But if you realy want to learn then go through all the info on that page.
You'll realize pretty soon how big of a task it is.

Seven months ago i didn't know much about electronics.
But now seven months later i have build my own analog synthesiser, EFX etc..
And im in progress of building my own real SID synthesizer based on 2 real SID chips!!

I have accumulated tons of information and purchased tons of equipment, components and books.
All it takes is commitment and you'll get there.

..and to spur your  entusiasm:

And remember, knowledge is power.

Good luck!

Re: Request for Backlight and Internal LED tutorials

Ok thanks for the help! smile
That link looks useful. I'm gonna check out what books my library has too.
I do have a soldering iron, but the only soldering I've done so far was replacing the battery in my GB flash cart (and I burned my finger in the process tongue).
Also, If you don't have much knowledge about the GB (I don't either) then I think this place will help a lot!
You're SoundLab looks impressive by the way.

Re: Request for Backlight and Internal LED tutorials

Can anyone else recommend some particularly helpful links/books/projects or other advice for a n00b getting started in electronics?
Anyone feel like putting together a backlight or internal LED tutorial if they've got the time?

Re: Request for Backlight and Internal LED tutorials

I didn't know that you can mod thoughs screens with a backlight.. having a gameboy colour with a backlight will be amazing. Something i will have to do some research on.

Re: Request for Backlight and Internal LED tutorials

People put in LEDs to light up the screen. Here are some examples that nonfinite did:
