How do you use metatiles with Gameboy Tile Designer?

I'm thinking of using metatiles for the game... Is there a proper way to use metatiles with the Gameboy Tile Designer? I want to know how to do this in case I decide that I do want to do it.

You can't use meta tiles, but you can copy paste groups of tiles already placed on your map.

Okay, are there programs to help develop metatile maps?

Are you sure? The Game Boy Tile Designer allows to set the tile size to 16x16 or 32x32 (Menu bar --> View --> Tile Size). If you load a .gbr file with larger tiles to the Game Boy Map Builder, it lets you draw a map with larger tiles. I have never used that function but at first glance it looks like something that could be useful to work with metatiles.

You are right. You can use 8x8, 8x16, 16x16 or 32x32

You can change the grid size. I usually just assemble everything in Paint though, both to see if it fits nicely and also because I'm not developing DMG games.
