DIY DMG Cart - Which Flash ?

Hello,

I'm currently in GameBoy Game Development and playing all games on emulation sucks.
Now im planning to build a flash cart by myself, but all advised flash-ics are no longer available.

Also the MBC-5 is hard to get, but there is a CPLD&VHDL  workaround i've seen in the wiki...

But where do i get the flash ? And which flash ?
Are there tutorials on how to build a flash cart which are up-to-date ?

I'm from germany btw

Re: DIY DMG Cart - Which Flash ?

You can easily make a custom cartridge out of a MBC5 with a AM29F032B ( There's still plenty of it on Ebay from China ). But you'll to built a GB cart flasher too...
All the informations are available here http://www.reinerziegler.de/readplus.htm

And MBC5 are not so hard to find, just check for games like Game&Watch Gallery 2. You'll find a list of MBC5 cart on this website.

Re: DIY DMG Cart - Which Flash ?

Thanks for your fast reply.

yes, there are still some  AM29F032B, and yes, it's easy to get some original MBC5 from old games... But what happens in the future?
AM29F032B has been outdated many years ago...

Is there something i don't or why cant i just take some new flash memory ? Yes, the new only works with 3.3volts instead of 5V, but is this the only point ?

Re: DIY DMG Cart - Which Flash ?

Since, the Gameboy is an outdated piece of hardware, you should probably work with outdated ICs...

I saw CPLD based MBC5 cartridge clone on Chipmusic.org working with a Xilinx XC9536 but the rom was also a AM29F016B...

Don't know if it will help you hmm

Re: DIY DMG Cart - Which Flash ?

Seen it too...
But do they use this old AM29F016B just because they work out of the box... ? Because i have new flash with the same pinout, but it needs voltage dividers... 3.3<->5V...

In the next two weeks i should get my homemade programmer assembled, and i will try to make a cart with new flash.

we'll see

There is one Thread with new flash

http://gbdev.gg8.se/forums/viewtopic.php?id=252&p=1

Its not the main topic but he is using currently available flash, lower voltages then 5V and a cpld.
So everthing is done, i've mailed him and i hope he answers...
